Committees

Rotary is an organisation seeking mainly to provide service to the community. That community will be mainly local but may also be elsewhere in that club's country or abroad wherever the need arises. A number of committees within each club seek to see how their club can provide service and to represent that need to the club. The committees within the Rotary Club of Mill Hill are:

Committee Role Chairman
Community Service/
Vocational  Service/
Youth Service
Looking at the needs of the local community, particularly where there may be individual need. The Community Service Committee considers appeals for help from schools, hospitals, youth clubs, charitable institutions and individuals who may contact the club directly. To contact the club for a local need, please write to the Community Service Chairman George Mason
International Looking at needs in other countries. The committee will consider supporting small projects or contributing to larger projects where the contribution would have a significant impact. The support may be non-financial such as the provision of aqua boxes to areas of poor water supply, collecting second hand glasses for areas of Africa and India that cannot provide them, filling 'shoe boxes' with essential items for developing countries, etc. The members own skills are often provided such as the setup of a pain clinic in Northern India. Rotary Fun Train The club operates a milk float dressed up as a train and strengthened to carry passengers. It is often seen around the streets the two weeks before Christmas collecting money for our charitable giving. During the Summer it is often booked by local schools to give rides to children (and adults) to help raise money for the schools. It has also taken part in a number of charitable events such as the Mencap Day at Haberdashers School, the Telethon on the South Bank and on many occasions has taken part in the Finchley Carnival. Bookings may be made through the Chairman. Ken Ferguson
